Neo-classical Ceramic Basket with Resin Cameo

Sweet little vintage vanity catch-all.

The ceramic has a black glaze with veins of white to simulate marble. The front has a lovely resin cameo with black and cream background and "carved" womans portrait. These resin cameos were actually molded, not carved, but the really nice ones (like this one) were so beautifully done they looked very close to the real thing. The cameo is framed in painted gold filigree. It has a basket shape with single handle. I am not sure of the exact date but I believe it's later 50s to early 60s when there was a craze for all things Neo-Classical...The mark on the botton simply reads Japan.

The size is small, just 4" X 4", perfect for the vanity or a small desk. I photographed it with a group of vintage ink pens but you could also use it to hold lipstick, hair accessories...or any number of little items that need coraling.  The condition is perfect... no nicks or cracks and the gilded paint is still clear and bright.

(Pens are not included)

PS... I found this with a matching vase which I have shown on my Etsy site Miss Melody. You can see it here
