Fantastic brooch and earring set from the 1950s by Matisse.
Matisse jewelry is a favorite among costume jewelry collectors. The look is totally unique. Sensuous abstracts and copper enameling are signature elements and this set, from their "Mask" series has it all. The enamel colors are gold, black and brown on a copper back ground. Mardi Gras like masks peek from behind free form accents. Fun and mysterious!
The set came in a lot of old store stock so it was never worn. Enamel jewelry is prone to chipping if dropped or mis handled so it's an added bonus to find rare and beautiful examples such as this in pristine condition.
The brooch measures just under 2 1/2" long the earrings are clip on.
