"French Country" Floral 1940s Covered Dish# 5570
Beautiful glazed pottery, covered dish from the 1940s.
Lovely "French Country" colors and floral pattern. Robins egg blue and cream background with sprigs of colorful little flowers on this covered oval dish. The edges of the cover are outlined in raised beads that have been highlighted in gold. If you lift the lid and look inside you will see a tiny flower on the bottom (look at my pictures)...I just love little surprises like that don't you?
I believe this was intended as a serving dish but I think it would also make a beautiful catch-all for your vanity or desk.... a pretty place to hide all those odds and ends that tend to get scattered about. It's a nice manageable size 8 1/2" X 6" and just under 3" tall (including handle). On the bottom it reads Hand Decorated and Fine China and there is a coat of arms type mark but no name. It's in mint condition no cracks, chips or scratches.

Neo-classical Ceramic Basket with Resin Cameo# 5569
Sweet little vintage vanity catch-all.
The ceramic has a black glaze with veins of white to simulate marble. The front has a lovely resin cameo with black and cream background and "carved" womans portrait. These resin cameos were actually molded, not carved, but the really nice ones (like this one) were so beautifully done they looked very close to the real thing. The cameo is framed in painted gold filigree. It has a basket shape with single handle. I am not sure of the exact date but I believe it's later 50s to early 60s when there was a craze for all things Neo-Classical...The mark on the botton simply reads Japan.
The size is small, just 4" X 4", perfect for the vanity or a small desk. I photographed it with a group of vintage ink pens but you could also use it to hold lipstick, hair accessories...or any number of little items that need coraling. The condition is perfect... no nicks or cracks and the gilded paint is still clear and bright.
(Pens are not included)
PS... I found this with a matching vase which I have shown on my Etsy site Miss Melody. You can see it here
